I recently read a book called Mañana by Justo Gonzalez, which is about theology from a Latin American perspective. A great read. This quote challenged the belief that I frequently come across that the church should be "a-political.":
"The problem is that if it is true that human beings are political animals, then everything that we do has a political context and political consequences. Thus the 'apolitical' Christianity that many advocate is in truth a Christianity that supports the politics that exist, the power if those who are presently powerful."
Gonzalez believes this is the problem with anti-political readings of the Bible. What do you think? Is it even possible or desirable to avoid politics in the church?
